Presentations

Dec 30, 2018
Having enjoyed working on Presentations for a long time, I enjoy engaging and leading the audience while presenting e.g. a University Presentation on an architectural company I worked for. Since students do not get paid to listen, it makes it all the more satisfying to keep their attention, and hopefully they get something out of it.

You will find Presentations are more to do with how you speak and present, not the content.

Consider...
  • What will the audience be looking for?
  • How much time do you have with the audience e.g. 10-20 minutes, an hour?
  • What are their needs, situation and the information better suited to present to them.
  • Tell the audience what will be talked about.

The techniques to engage the audience, in ways that lets them know they have your attention while you present, and you have their attention. While studying some time ago, a Presentation made on a Architectural company I was working for, got the students attention. I realised it was due to how I engaged the students, not so much the content. Yet, the students listened for the entire Presentation, taking in what I had to say about an Architectural company.

When looking at the Presentation slides, keep in mind almost all the information comes from the presenter. The slides are very compact and in point form, simply as a guide to the audience of what the presenter is talking about at that moment. If the slides take a lot of time and attention of the audience, the audience will struggle to focus on the presenter. Since I am not in person as the presenter, the slides on their own can seem a bit too simple, without enough information on Graphic Novels.

While presenting, maintain the connection with the audience by doing transitions. The way you speak and present, lead the audience through transition between points. Make sure the audience is aware of the transition, so they move along with you. For example, tell the audience “we’ve just talked about..." or "We are now going to move into the next topic of...” Have it visually reinforced through a transition on the screen, to ensure people are on the same page as you.

Presentations have helped build my confidence since I was at school, especially University. Assisting staff at the office to remain focussed on the Presentation, so they can have an easy and hopefully good time in understanding the information, is very satisfying.

The effort required in understanding the audience’s needs to deliver an engaging Presentation is well worth it. Again, the confidence that developed from making Presentations, gives them a special spot in my heart.

As this will be my last blog post for 2018, happy holidays and have a great new year!

The Flower is back...

Dec 15, 2018
Hi everyone. Going back to the Flower logo of this Portfolio website. Having done an Abstract piece for the flower i.e. creating a background for it, I wanted to do something different with the background for some time.

Looking at the background, realised I wanted it to look a bit smoother. See the September 2018 page in Past Blogs for the previous piece. There is nothing wrong with the previous background, it is just the background looks a little rough compared to the smoothness of the flower.

Thinking of some marble tables, I painted this new background with a marble finish...

Being able to paint something from your own imagination, let alone being what you want, can give you a lot of satisfaction.

Have a good weekend...

A different kind of Art

Dec 7, 2018
Artwork has long been a passion of mine, since childhood. Even more of a passion, if the piece is on something you love such as a TV show, or Book.

Abstract Art definitely has its place with me, such as below...

The symbol has been created in two main steps. The first is using Vector tools. The second step is creating further graphics within the symbol, and around its edges.

The background has been purely painted from scratch i.e. not based on any photos. It is so satisfying to create something scratch, that can resemble what you are after.

Hope you like it.
